Arts and Science for (Climate) Change – How can art and science tackle sea level rise in Venice?
Venice Climate Lab is one of the sponsor of Climathon Venice, a global 24-hour climate change hackathon which will take place simultaneously in Venice and major cities around the world on 27 October 2017. It is an international event promoted by Climate-KIC. It brings together the challenges of the world’s cities with the people who have the passion and ability to solve them. Climathon attracts innovators, entrepreneurs, students and professionals to create innovative solutions to cities climate challenges.
| THE CONTEXT
Venice and its lagoon represent a global symbol of coastal fragility and climate change related impacts. In 100 years from now, one of the worldwide most important city on water will have to cope with sea level rise.
The second edition of the Climathon Venice welcome ideas that are intended to help communities in identifying potential alternatives for sea level rise adaptation. At a time when climate change’s effects are taking place, arts can inspire different ways of thinking about and engaging with the people.
| THE EVENT
Climathon Venice will start on October 27 and will end 24h later, on October 28, with the awards ceremony of the winning group. The event will take place at the “Centro Espositivo Zitelle” CZ95 in Giudecca. The event is organized by the CMCC Foundation in collaboration with Venice Climate Lab, Municipality of Venice, Ca’ Foscari University and Micromega Arte e Cultura.

Participants will be admitted to Climathon up to a maximum of 30 people selected on the basis of expertise and field of interests related to the main themes of the event. In consideration of the multidisciplinarity of the challenge proposed, mostly welcome to register and participate are groups of 3-5 participants.

Il Venice Climate Lab è uno degli sponsor di Climathon Venice, un hackathon mondiale di 24 ore sul cambiamento climatico che si svolgerà contemporaneamente a Venezia e nelle principali città del mondo il 27 ottobre 2017. È un evento internazionale promosso da Climate-KIC. Raccoglie le sfide dalle città del mondo coinvolgendo persone che hanno la passione e le capacità per risolverle. Climathon attrae innovatori, imprenditori, studenti e professionisti per creare soluzioni innovative per le sfide climatiche che le città dovranno affrontare.
IL CONTESTO
Molte città al mondo stanno attuando misure di adattamento con l’obiettivo di anticipare gli effetti negativi del cambiamento climatico o allo stesso tempo approfittare delle opportunità che ne possono derivare.
Molti di questi impatti, come l’innalzamento del livello del mare, minacciano Venezia e la sua laguna. Le possibili alternative implementate consentono di minimizzare i danni e allo stesso tempo di continuare a vivere in armonia con l’acqua.
La seconda edizione di Climathon Venezia accoglie idee artistiche e creative che mirano ad aiutare le comunità e le amministrazioni locali a individuare alternative possibili per l’adattamento all’innalzamento del livello del mare.
| L’EVENTO
Climathon Venezia inizierà il 27 ottobre e si concluderà 24 ore dopo, il 28 ottobre, con la cerimonia di premiazione del gruppo vincitore. L’evento si svolgerà presso il Centro Espositivo Zitelle” CZ95 in Giudecca. L’ evento è organizzato dalla Fondazione CMCC in collaborazione con il Venice Climate Lab, il Comune di Venezia, l’Univeristà Ca’ Foscari e lo spazio Micromega Arte e Cultura.

I partecipanti saranno ammessi alla Climathon fino ad un massimo di 30 persone selezionate sulla base di competenze e campi di interesse relativi ai temi principali dell’evento. Saranno favoriti gruppi di 3-5 persone ma è possibile l’iscrizione anche some singoli che saranno poi aggregati ad altri gruppi.
